PORTFOLIO CLASS

 

 

High School

In this class students will build a diverse portfolio for entering into the visual arts department of a  High School Fine Arts Academy.  Admission to these schools are very competitive and a well developed portfolio is an important aspect that can give students a competitive edge.  Students will develop their skills and voice in a diverse manner that is unique to their own artistic vision.  They will learn how to speak intelligently about their work and show a clear understanding of their thought and intent.

 

In this class:

  • A personal critique of the student’s work.
  • Identifying strength and weaknesses.
  • Expose them to a diverse approach to thinking and creating.
  • Learn about different medium.
  • Speak intelligently about their work.
  • Understand how to use a sketchbook.
  • Become versed in the language of the arts.
  • Develop a breadth and concentration.
  • Create a solid and diverse portfolio unique to the student’s style.

    

$340.00 –*A four week class

$650.00 –*An eight week class

*Building a fine art portfolio can take up to a year of working on and should not be left to the last minute. That being said, it is not to say that a complete portfolio will be completed in a four or eight week session. Completion times will vary depending on quality and quantity of work already created as well as the discipline of the student.

**There is only one class a week on Sundays and is two hours long.  There are no makeup days if a class is missedPlease do not miss a class.  Work can either be left here to work on the following week or can be taken home. Basic materials are supplied here but if specific or unique material is required for the artwork then that will have to be supplied by the student. A list of supplied materials is listed below.

 

 

COLLEGE

This portfolio class is for the High School student entering into a College or Fine Art School for the visual arts.  This class is meant to augment the working habits of a High School art curriculum helping the student gain a deeper understanding of their work and the expectations of Art School as well as the art world.  In this class, focus is geared to each students own unique way of seeing and the development of individual style.  All Art Schools have their own criteria for their portfolios so a student’s portfolio will be adjusted to meet those demands.  A development of breadth and identification of concentration will be a main focus in these classes.  Another important aspect of this portfolio class is learning how to critique, not only their own work but the work of others as well.  Developing this skill creates a solid foundation for their entire artistic career.

$75.00 – Portfolio editing for one hour for students with a complete body of work.

(For students enrolled in the portfolio class entering in either High School or College, portfolio editing is included.)

  • Acrylic paints.
  • Watercolor paints.
  • Array of brushes for all painting medium.
  • Prismacolor pencils.
  • Prismacolor chalk pastels
  • Charcoal
  • Spray fixative
  • 18×24 inch white paper and newsprint.
  • Various tools for unconventional mark making.
  • Easels, boards and bull clips.
  • Use of my personal library of artist books.
